About Dr Joy Wright
Dr. Joy Wright was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama with three brothers and two sisters. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and was selected for flight training in Pensacola, Florida. She earned her Naval Flight Officer Wings and served as an Active Duty Officer flying F-14 Tomcats. She was selected to be part of the integration of women on aircraft carriers and served on the USS Roosevelt as the first female in the ship’s company. After serving eight years of active duty in the navy, Joy was diagnosed with lupus and was medically retired from the navy. Although she loved serving in the military, she also loved the training programs she provided on active duty. She decided to go to graduate school and obtained a master’s degree in Psychology and a Doctorate in Organizational Development to continue training. She has over 17 years of experience in consulting with the military, corporate sector, and non-profits. Dr. Wright and Ray Leonard Jr Co-founded Launch Team Consulting and provide consulting to the military and many corporate organizations designing and providing leadership and management training programs, diversity and inclusion training, facing adversity training, and high-risk behavior prevention.
Dr. Wright met her husband, Will Wright, in the Navy. He also flew jets in the Navy flying F-14s, F/A-18s, and C-40s, including a mission where he launched in an F-14 on September 11th, 2001 to defend our country and protect our freedom. After Will finished his active duty flying, Joy and Will moved to Temecula in 2007. Their oldest son, Thomas, is a freshman at Yale University and is studying Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology. They also have twin boys, James and Jack Wright who are juniors at Great Oak High School enjoying track and field in pole vault and throws. They recently have been dancing their way to the Today Show, Entertainment Tonight, and ad campaigns on the social media platform, TikTok.
Joy is on the Advisory Committee for Rose Again Foundation. She is also an active volunteer with the Semper Fi Fund and her entire family is active volunteering at their events assisting with disabled veterans and active-duty members in our local area. Both Joy and her husband have provided coaching in soccer, track, and football over the years in the local community and at Linfield Christian. Joy volunteered as the football team mom at Linfield for over three years. She continues to volunteer on the Safety Committee and safety task force at Linfield. Joy loves to volunteer especially in her local community.
